Fivestriped squirrel, though commoner in northern India, has a wider range of occurrence whereas Threestriped squirrel predominates the southern portion of the country. Thus, in South Gujarat, both species may be found in the same area. While Fivestriped species lives in crowded towns and cities or villages, the Threestriped squirrel is more or less a forest animal.
