Nilkanth is a bird found in India.  This bird is also known as Indian roller.  This green and brown bird is beautiful in appearance.  Although the bluebird is related to the roller species, its color is quite different.  Apart from India, it is also found in countries like South Asia, Indonesia and Iraq.  They are not migratory birds but they change their place according to the seasons.  The head and wings of a bluebird are green.  As well as the color of his neck being light brown Is.  Its beak is black.  His voice is as sharp and raspy as a crow's.  This bird called Nilkanth is about 27 cm long.  It looks like that.  It weighs only 80 to 100 grams. Males and females are almost identical in appearance(1) .  The peculiarity of Nilkanth is that it performs various feats while flying in the air.  He does aerobics moves while flying in the air.  It can also rotate 360 degrees.  The breeding season of Neelkanth in India is from May to June.  I.e. those chicks in the summer season Gives birth.  The Neelkanth bird lives not only in forests but also in mountainous areas.  In addition to this they are also found in the meadows near the forest.  Sometimes they are even seen sitting on the poles of the roads.  The main food of Neelkanth bird is seeds, small caterpillars, insects, small reptiles, small scorpions and macaws.


They also swallow and eat small creatures that fly in the air.  This bluebird is also called a farmer-loving bird.  It protects the crop from spoilage by eating the pests found in the field.  The male sapphire shoots in the air to attract the female.  The green color of its wings looks very beautiful at this time.  Usually they nest on trees as well Forms in the hollow of the tree.  Ida of female jay is white in color. It lays three to four eggs at a time (1) .  Both male and female Nilkantha serve Ida together.


Twenty days later the chicks come out of Ida.  Males and females raise their young for two months, after which they leave the nest and fly away.  Some people consider the Nilakantha bird to be a form of Lord Shiva.  That is why it is known as Nilkanth.  If this bird is seen in Dussehra and Durga Puja, it is considered auspicious.  The Neelkanth bird has been declared a political bird of states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.  Their lifespan is 18 to 18 years.  At present the population of Nilkantha bird is declining alarmingly.
